The Dress.

Speaking of posting things so I can reference it later…I know this happened months ago (and in internet time that might as well have been years) but I meant to post about this when it happened and just didn’t.

Edit: I originally posted this on July 28, 2015 but I changed the publishing date to move the post back to February 27, 2015 which is when this actually happened. I moved it because I didn’t want it in with my current posts because it isn’t relevant.

The debate on whether the dress is blue and black or white and gold intrigued me. I have always been interested in how our brains interpret color and what it looks like to different people. I showed the photo to a group of people I was with and it was split about half and half with which colors they saw. I see blue and black. We all know now that the dress is blue and black and the lighting in the photo is what makes some people see it differently.

The dress.

Here is a screenshot of some of the comments people had to say about it. The third one down cracked me up. Click on the picture to make it bigger.

And here is a video about the dress that references an optical illusion picture that I had thought about when this first came up. It’s a checkered board where square A and B are the same color but your brain interprets one as white and the other as grey. The shadow is what makes your brain think they are different colors. I tested this myself by taking a piece of paper and covering up the whole picture except for square A and B and they are the same color but when I look at the picture as a whole they look like different colors to me. The brain fascinates me.

30 Seconds to Mars covers Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert covers Metallica etc.

I will post the original videos at the bottom of the post for reference.

Here is 30 Seconds to Mars doing a cover of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance. The lyrics are different but I like what they did with it. I think they upped the creep factor a little bit. I love the emotion in Jared Leto’s voice.

Here is Adam Lambert covering Metallica’s Enter Sandman. I never thought of Enter Sandman as a sexy song but leave it to Adam Lambert to pull that off.

This is Postmodern Jukebox covering Paula Abdul’s Straight Up in vintage Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers style. I love the Betty Boop quality in Ashley Stroud’s voice. I had never heard of this group before this but I absolutely love this cover.

Here is Marilyn Manson’s cover of Sweet Dreams by The Eurythmics. I can’t believe it’s going on twenty years since this came out. According to Wikipedia, Billboard rated this the “scariest video ever made”, beating out Michael Jackson’s Thriller for the top spot.

Here are the originals:

Lady Gaga-Bad Romance

Metallica-Enter Sandman

Paula Abdul-Straight Up

Eurythmics-Sweet Dreams

Thank you to the people who posted videos in the comments of Daron’s Guitar Chronicles of 30 Seconds to Mars and Postmodern Jukebox because otherwise I wouldn’t have known those covers existed.

Since I referenced it (and it is still awesome) here is Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

Thank you WordPress!!! I love my site!!!

I just want to say how much I love the look of my site and I could not have done it without WordPress. I do not know much about computer coding so I needed a website that would be easy to set up. It came down to deciding between WordPress and Squarespace. Squarespace seemed a little easier to work with with their drag and drop feature but WordPress offered more options and I liked the look of the sample WordPress sites better. Plus, I came across a lot of people saying that if you are going to do a serious blog site that you will eventually move to WordPress, so you might as well start there. Basically, all I had to do was find a theme I liked and make a few tweaks so it was just what I wanted and I was up and running. It didn’t take long at all. I already owned my domain name so I just had to add WordPress to my hosting service. All in all pretty awesome.

FYI: WordPress has themes that are much more involved than this. I just happen to like the clean simplicity of this design. It turned out exactly how I wanted.

Tiny homes and a castle on wheels.

I love unique architecture and I especially love to see what people do with small spaces. Here are a few videos that I wanted to share.

Here a guy turned a storage space into his home. It’s amazing what he did with it. I love the different levels.

This one is a street legal truck that converts into a completely livable castle. Really impressive how they chose to use the space. Very creative.

The last two videos show two slightly different designs from Tumbleweed Tiny Houses. These are so cute. I love the idea of parking one of these out in a wooded area and having an instant cabin in the woods. These are built on trailers so they are portable. They are licensed like an RV. I like the design from the kitchen back on the first video and the kitchen and front room on the second video. Although I would put a desk in where they have the window bench. The second video gives a more thorough tour than the first video does.

Enjoy.
