My intentions for this blog and YouTube channel.

Sorry for the rambling…

I’ve been trying to formulate a way to try to explain my intentions for this blog and my YouTube channel so people could have some idea of what to expect here. It’s hard because it encompasses so many different ideas, hence the “Anything and Alles (Everything)” tagline. There is no main thread that ties everything together except for the fact that they are all things that interest me. My original goal was to use this as a platform to interview people, and that is still a main goal. However, I also want to use this as a way to document things for myself. Whether it’s things I want to remember or just links and videos I want to be able to easily find again. I love being able to look back and see how my interests have evolved or how my ideas on things change with new input. And, in the process, if I can introduce someone to something they didn’t know existed or give them a new way to look at something, then that is just an added bonus.

Growing up my influences were talk shows and MTV (back when MTV actually played music 24 hours a day). I always wanted to be the interviewer. I thought MTV Veejays, Barbara Walters and Oprah Winfrey had the coolest jobs. Music was my first love, quickly followed by books, and I thought “how cool would it be to be able to interview whichever musician or author I was currently into?”. But I wanted to be able to interview whomever I wanted, whenever I wanted, from wherever I wanted. I never wanted to be tied to a location, production company, or a fixed schedule. Nor was I interested in having to interview people I didn’t care about simply for a show. I wanted freedom and control over what I was doing. And now with the internet and websites like YouTube I can do just that. I think that is pretty awesome. Now I just need to start telling people that GushOnline exists.

The Dress.

Speaking of posting things so I can reference it later…I know this happened months ago (and in internet time that might as well have been years) but I meant to post about this when it happened and just didn’t.

Edit: I originally posted this on July 28, 2015 but I changed the publishing date to move the post back to February 27, 2015 which is when this actually happened. I moved it because I didn’t want it in with my current posts because it isn’t relevant.

The debate on whether the dress is blue and black or white and gold intrigued me. I have always been interested in how our brains interpret color and what it looks like to different people. I showed the photo to a group of people I was with and it was split about half and half with which colors they saw. I see blue and black. We all know now that the dress is blue and black and the lighting in the photo is what makes some people see it differently.

Here is a screenshot of some of the comments people had to say about it. The third one down cracked me up. Click on the picture to make it bigger.

And here is a video about the dress that references an optical illusion picture that I had thought about when this first came up. It’s a checkered board where square A and B are the same color but your brain interprets one as white and the other as grey. The shadow is what makes your brain think they are different colors. I tested this myself by taking a piece of paper and covering up the whole picture except for square A and B and they are the same color but when I look at the picture as a whole they look like different colors to me. The brain fascinates me.

Thank you WordPress!!! I love my site!!!

I just want to say how much I love the look of my site and I could not have done it without WordPress. I do not know much about computer coding so I needed a website that would be easy to set up. It came down to deciding between WordPress and Squarespace. Squarespace seemed a little easier to work with with their drag and drop feature but WordPress offered more options and I liked the look of the sample WordPress sites better. Plus, I came across a lot of people saying that if you are going to do a serious blog site that you will eventually move to WordPress, so you might as well start there. Basically, all I had to do was find a theme I liked and make a few tweaks so it was just what I wanted and I was up and running. It didn’t take long at all. I already owned my domain name so I just had to add WordPress to my hosting service. All in all pretty awesome.

FYI: WordPress has themes that are much more involved than this. I just happen to like the clean simplicity of this design. It turned out exactly how I wanted.
