Speaking of posting things so I can reference it later…I know this happened months ago (and in internet time that might as well have been years) but I meant to post about this when it happened and just didn’t.
Edit: I originally posted this on July 28, 2015 but I changed the publishing date to move the post back to February 27, 2015 which is when this actually happened. I moved it because I didn’t want it in with my current posts because it isn’t relevant.
The debate on whether the dress is blue and black or white and gold intrigued me. I have always been interested in how our brains interpret color and what it looks like to different people. I showed the photo to a group of people I was with and it was split about half and half with which colors they saw. I see blue and black. We all know now that the dress is blue and black and the lighting in the photo is what makes some people see it differently.
The dress.
Here is a screenshot of some of the comments people had to say about it. The third one down cracked me up. Click on the picture to make it bigger.
And here is a video about the dress that references an optical illusion picture that I had thought about when this first came up. It’s a checkered board where square A and B are the same color but your brain interprets one as white and the other as grey. The shadow is what makes your brain think they are different colors. I tested this myself by taking a piece of paper and covering up the whole picture except for square A and B and they are the same color but when I look at the picture as a whole they look like different colors to me. The brain fascinates me.
